I had another 1 wave surf at Rocklands today. I held out on my last one wave surf at Rocklands, mainly because the surf was too small to write in for, but today it was much better.

With 4 people out, and shoulder high sets, the waves were breaking quite nicely. Unfortunately, the sets were coming through every 10-15 minutes and they were only 1 wave sets. So in 45 minutes, with all the sharing of the waves, I only got one. One nice one though.

I’ll do a dedicated page on Rocklands next week sometime, and I’ll snap a picture too.

The surf today isn’t ideal, but I have been bursting to get in the water after what must be a 2 week dry spell. The swell seems fine, but the wind and swell direction seems to be messing everything up.
I zipped over to Thermo’s – Nothing. Then Off The Wall – Nothing. Nothing all the way to Camps Bay. But in the corner of my eye I caught a wave at Glenn beach, so I turned around a jumped in.
As I was getting changed I saw some fins on a board that looked like the one I found at Off The Wall. So I asked the guy if he had lost a fin, and he had. So Clive will be re-united with his (nearly new apparently) fin in time for Christmas!

The surf over the last couple of days has been pretty flat, which is why the reports and pictures have not been forthcoming. But the day before yesterday (Wednesday) was special. I had planned to go surfing that morning, because of a tip the guys at Surf Zone in Cape Town gave me, but when I got there in the morning, the swell had not arrived. When I went back later in the day, the swell had jacked and it was going off, but I didn’t have the time to jump in – gutted.

Since the swell has been good, but the wind hasn’t been great, leaving Greenpoint a little bumpy.
So the moral of the story is, when you are driving in South Africa always make sure you have a decent spare wheel, jack and spanner in you car. I was driving home last night and a log was rolling down the road. Rolling log plus the side of your wheel leaves you with what I had in the picture below. Unfortunately for me though, I didn’t have a wheel spanner so I had to wait for a friend to come and help out.

There was a big mist over cape town this morning that is still lingering around. The mist has cleared from the city bowl, but is still lingering over the Atlantic coast, causing onshore conditions. As soon as the sun comes out the wind should switch offshore again. See this panorama picture I took at Greenpoint Stadium. You can see the mist looming over the sea, and the clear skies over Cape Town city bowl. Lets hope it clears before everyone gets off work!

Off the wall is a special spot for me. The wave breaks over a shallow rock, so you have to balance taking off on the wave in between the death drop and the flat shoulder. Great fun, as long as you don’t slam into the rock like I did the first time I surfed there.
Unfortunately, and fortunately, its not suitable for beginners due to the sharp rocks you have to clamber over and the small take off spot.
